Wow, I think you took this photo very tastefully. I love how you kept the colors of the ring and bracelet but made the hands black and white and because of that the ring and bracelet really stand out. I also like how the colors of this photo contrast--very cool. :D

This is such a beautiful piece! The selective color skillfully intensifies the overall feel of this particular photo. It is very easy to make this technique appear amateurish, but you pulled it off exceedingly well ^^

Here is the constructive critique you wanted:

The focus and the and contrast of the piece is really well done and it comes off very clean and recognizable. The singled out color of only the ring and the bracelet is a nice touch but I think if you were able to tone down the color of the bracelet it would have made the piece stronger as the color is a tad overpowering. Compositionally it works pretty well although I think it could have been played with a little more by rotating the camera between 5 and 15 degrees with a little cropping.

Other than that a very strong piece. Keep on shooting.

Thanks for the critique!
And I agree on the bracelet, I was actually looking at this picture yesterday and noticing that the actual bracelet around my arm is far closer to white than yellow. Not the hard core yellow shown in this picture.

Hey there! Really nice picture! :D
I'm just wondering how you kept the jewelry in color, but everything else in b&w. I see this technique every now and then, and I just love it.

Hey thanks! That's awesome!

(Sorry for the ultra delayed response, I didn't get a message way back when about this comment and just never saw it O.o )

Thanks! It's a technique often called "Color Select," or Selective Coloring, depending on whom you talk to. It's done in Photoshop typically, and basically you do all of your picture editing, then you desaturate the picture, or however you choose to black and white it (I prefer Channel Mixer + Monochrome option to get the best definition).
Next you can either use the history tool, and manually fill in all of the color in the spots you want, or create an overlay by copying the picture before it is black and white, and then placing that as a layer either on top of, or under the black and white layer. Then erasing the desired part to create your picture.

And that's pretty much it... It's really a lot simpler done than said, it just takes a lot of busy work. There are other techniques to do it but that's the most reliable in my opinion.
